Project of the month November 2024
Hagelschuer supplies high-speed steam generators to the Schumacher Altbiermanufaktur in Düsseldorf
Steam accumulator added – for more efficient brewing processes
The task
The brewery ‘s project managers approached Hagelschuer back in 2022 together with the commissioned engineering firm. The process steam supply was to be replaced, as the existing steam boiler system had completely outdated technology.
The boiler house is located in a listed building. Not only the dismantling of the old system, but also the installation of the new system required detailed planning and sophisticated construction site logistics in advance. The access routes here were very limited.
The attachment
The project managers decided to install three high-speed steam generators (each with 560 kg/h x 13 bar g) without a heating coil. Their compact dimensions allowed them to be installed in the historic building without any structural changes. In addition to the new steam generators, a 1000 l feed water tank with deaerator, a softening system, a desludging unit with heat recovery and a steam distributor complete the modern steam boiler system.
In addition, the use of a steam storage tank proved necessary to compensate for peak loads during the ongoing brewing process. As a large amount of steam is required for short periods during the various processes, this can only be supplied in good quality from the steam storage tank. The storage tank is replenished between peak loads. This offers the decisive advantage that the steam boiler system can be operated continuously at a constant load. Our Hagelschuer fitters installed the steam accumulator with a volume of 2.6 m³ on site in the boiler house, piped it completely and integrated it into the system.

Project partner mediates Jule before completion
Our rental boiler plant Jule (3 t/h, 2.1 MW, 16 bar) had not yet been completed when we received the first inquiry from our project partner CAL Trading from the Netherlands. A dairy plant for goat milk needs an additional process steam supply as a temporary solution for approx. 2 years for the expansion of its product range. The customer’s requirements were high; in addition to a fully equipped container facility, the customer also wanted the ongoing operating costs to be as low as possible.
