Case Study: Three GH container systems in special design delivered to Poland

Global manufacturer of building materials once again relies on steam from Hagelschuer

The task

The Polish government wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Poland is planning a complete coal phase-out for its coal-dependent energy system. Our customer, a global manufacturer of building materials, has already completed the phase-out for its first three of eight branches in Poland.

In spring 2024, the project managers approached Hagelschuer again to replace the outdated steam boiler systems at three different production sites in Poland, which were still fired with hard coal. They were particularly keen to find a quick and flexible solution in order to keep the structural work on the existing boiler houses and the loss of steam supply to a minimum during the conversion work.

The plants

Our Hagelschuer experts finally convinced the project managers of our mobile energy centers. The three double-decker containers (L 14 m x W 4.50 m x H 6 m) in a special design each house a fully operational steam boiler system. The built-in saturated steam boilers have an output of 10 t/h at a safety pressure of 18 bar. The boiler bodies are equipped with highly efficient low-NOx dual firing systems and can be operated with either natural gas or heating oil or, in one case, with liquid gas . This means that they already comply with all required NOx limits. In addition, all three steam boiler bodieshave connection pieces for retrofitting electric flanged radiators .

The respective system technology is completed with the corresponding, fully equipped feed water supply. The 8,000 l feed water tanks with integrated full degassing provide the necessary treated make-up water in the steam boiler bodies. This easily absorbs the load peaks that occur during the production of the building materials. Hagelschuer prefabricated the three double-decker container units completely at its plant in Buldern. The upper container halves were removed for safe transportation to Poland. A total of nine low loaders were used to transport theplant technology safely to its destination. On site, our (S)team players reassembled the container units on the prepared foundations. They then took care of the necessary connection work. Once all the systems had been set up, our Hagelschuer customer service technician took over the commissioning of all three systems one after the other.
