CASE STUDY: STEAM GENERATOR FOR THE ANIMAL FEED INDUSTRY
WITH THE 20-TONNE LARGE WATER SPACE BOILER THROUGH THE ROOF
A&L Tierfrischmehl Produktions GmbH manufactures valuable ingredients for animal feed. At the end of March 2020, during the first pandemic shutdown, the new 20 t/h steam generator for the animal feed industry was installed. This was the first time that Hagelschuer had implemented this complex system solution. In addition to the major technical challenges, the increased safety measures that applied were a further factor that the Hagelschuer experts overcame with aplomb and reliably.
The task
As one of the two existing boilers in the old system was a total write-off, it was essential to replace it as quickly as possible. The new large water space boiler was lifted by crane, inserted through the open roof and placed on its foundation. The Hagelschuer specialists then connected the new boiler to the existing steam and supply lines. Due to the system being connected to the on-site lignite-fired power plant, the technical requirements on the new boiler were extremely high, comprehensive and diverse.

The system
The boiler is kept at operating temperature permanently by a steam coil connected to the lignite-fired power plant. If the power plant fails it is ready for use immediately as a back-up solution for steam supply. In normal operation, it supplies the required process steam together with the lignite-fired power plant depending on the output. A 300-kW electrical immersion heater that Hagelschuer retrofitted enables it to reduce the primary gas consumption by using the cheaper excess electricity.

Technically demanding steam supply overcome with aplomb
The hot flue gases heat up the feed water in a heat exchanger (economiser). The flue gases are cooled to the dew point range in a downstream flue gas condenser and used sensibly for process water. The hot water generated by the cooling process is used for different operational cleaning processes.
